It’s that time of the year again when ‘financial punches’ will be thrown at fathers to pay fees amongst other obligations. However, a father’s responsibility goes beyond monetary involvement.

A father is the central to the emotional well-being of his children and as such, must be actively involved in their upbringing.

In order for a father to leave a lasting legacy and remain in his children’s memories, he must be involved in their lives today.

Fathers, be involved in your child’s life by;

• Creating the right atmosphere and tone in your home.
• Setting values, and developing a family vision, culture and tradition.
• Providing the needed support, protection, and security.
• Leading, serving, encouraging with tenderness and patience.
• Creating and spending time to connect, mentor, teach, and guide.
• Knowing their interests, sharing your story and experiences.
• Knowing their friends and asking questions.
• Establishing rules, following through and disciplining in love, not anger.
• Loving, hugging, showing affection as well as playing and praying for them.
• Traveling, exploring, and sharing fun experiences.
• Communicating; be a good listener and observer.
• Show respect to the mother of your children.
• Be a committed, consistent and exemplary father.
• Remember that a father is his son’s first hero and his daughter’s first love, treat your children equally and never display favoritism.

The ocean is made up of millions of water drops and each drop makes a difference. Fathers, each ‘drop’ of parenting input makes an immeasurable impact!
